Objective: Predict if orange will float with and without a peel
- Fill a container with water and get a fresh orange. What do you think will happen if we put an orange in a bowl of water?
- Now peel the orange and put it back in the water. What do you think will happen and why?
What's Happening?
The orange peel contains lots of air pockets that made the orange lighter for its size. When the peel was removed the orange was heavier for its size and sunk.
